A Practical Approach to Pattern-Based Architectures for E-Business

The pressure for businesses to be competitive and profitable is greater than ever. The market and investors continue to scrutinize technology companies for profitability in a business climate that is in the midst of information frenzy. In addition, the current technology industry is plagued by constant and inevitable change and by a demand for information at an unprecedented pace. The issues of quality, timeliness and change are forcing IT professionals to face up to the challenges of enterprise architecture. However, determining and documenting architecture is not a process that is widely understood. Much of what is available is theoretical, not practical in nature. This paper examines a practical approach to documenting and developing an enterprise architecture that is an adaptation of the theoretical. It demonstrates an approach to eBusiness architecture through the use of frameworks and patterns that provide value to the architecture development lifecycle.
