Modification and Capacity Increase of Hydraulic Turbine Generator Unit of Gongzui Hydropower Station

A number of old hydropower stations which were constructed and put into production 2 or 3 decades before scattered across the country on various river valleys. Restricted by the capacities of design and manufacture of hydraulic turbine generator unit, as well as metal material development level at that time, all the generator units are showing different degrees of aging after long period of operations. After operation for nearly 30 years, the hydraulic turbine generator unit of Gongzui Hydropower Station are showing the problems of excessive heat generation at the end pressing finger of stator coils, deterioration of coil insulation performance, serious wear off of flow parts of the hydraulic turbine, and the operation performances of the units differ from the design values. In the winter of 2002, the power station imported high-performance impeller designed and manufactured by GE Corporation of Canada, purchased domestically made flow parts, replaced stator coil and iron core of the generator, through which the output of the generator unit increased from 100MW to 110MW. This article presented the process of modification, the post-modification problem and the treatment of the hydraulic turbine generator unit of Gongzui Hydropower Station, which is intended for the reference of future modification and capacity increase of old power stations.
