When a customer buys a new product, he expects to get more value compared to the pro-duct he is currently using, but he is not necessarily willing to pay more. For production technology this results into the demand to manufacture additional or improved products at the same or at an even lower price than before. For example, annual savings are documented in contracts as far as Tool Management is concerned. The attempt of HPC to include all processes in connection with the metal-cutting value creation chain, opens multiple possibilities to fulfil this task; some of them will be shown in this seminar paper. Metal-cutting technology meets these demands with developments like HSC machining or by using super-hard cutting materials. However, the aim of these developments is, above all, to increase the cutting speed during the machining operation. A better method of process optimization is High Performance Cutting or HPC (see Fig. 1). Here the aim is to not only maximize the material removal rate but to look at the process including all marginal conditions, in order to develop optimum procedures or tools for the customer and his operation processes.
