Roger Pilkington made a short presentation indicating that the ice is decreasing rapidly in the Arctic Ocean. He pointed out that scientists generally believe that within the next 10 to 20 years, there will be little or no ice left in the Arctic Ocean in September. The amount of old ice has decreased considerably since the late 1990s and the amount of sea ice in the Arctic Ocean this year is the least that it has been since satellite records have been available - about the past 30 years. Structures installed within the next few years will experience some MY ice, ice islands and moderate waves, tut within the life of the structure, there will likely be no old ice and peak ice loads will decrease considerably but waves will be appreciably higher, as fetches will not be limited by the ice.
