The thermal power plant is one of the largest water consumer-industries. In the newly - constructing, extending and renovating engineering for thermal power plants at the industrial base in northern China, the water resources shortage has been the major restricting factor, emerging even the phenomenon of having the plant scale determined by water. The thermal power plant is also the large water discharger, Along with the situation of environmental protection regulation getting perfect, the water resources shortage getting tighter, the thermal power plants should have the drainage amount control, drainage pollution and waste water utilization be the major tasks in water conservation and waste water treatment. In the "eighth five" years plan period, the thermal power plants in China have scored enormous achievement in waste water treatment and water conservation. However, compared with international level, these works have still a long way to go.
