A study on universal electronic table of product commonality-orientated design and its system development

Competition in manufacturing has been focused on the ability of enterprise to satisfy unpredictable needs of customer since years ago. Under this background, it is very important for manufacturing enterprises to obtain competition advantage to improve all kinds of product commonality during designing a customized product. In this paper a universal electronic table of product commonality-oriented design method is presented through making use of the 40 GB data for designing 3-serial industrial turbines in Hangzhou Turbines Ltd (HTL). The design data have been cumulated in a variety of cases throughout the past 30 years. Furthermore, the development of a prototype system is described and the system applications are explored.
