Recent developments in the field of shotcrete: the Quebec experience

This article presents an overview of the results of many research and demonstration projects in Quebec where innovative techniques and new developments were introduced into current shotcrete practice for repair and underground works. These new developments cover new types of shotcrete and equipment. Innovations such as air-entrained dry-process shotcrete, a high initial air content concept applicable to wet-process shotcrete, a new finishing technique using a motorized tool, and the development of exposed aggregate wet-mix shotcrete, are presented and described. Finally, the problem of reinforcement encapsulation using shotcrete is discussed, and potential test solutions are presented. Some experimental results are also presented on this matter.
