This paper presents an original chain structure Bluetooth scatternet topology formation algorithm: all the Bluetooth nodes enter into INQUIRY or INUQUIRY SCAN state by the same probability of 0.5, and establish point-to-point connection simultaneously to form temporary piconets as many as possible. Then they will repeatedly form larger piconets and groups composed of several piconets by way of various incorporation and reorganization, until a chain structure piconet with only one group is finally formed. The simulations and its performance analysis show that this algorithm enjoys many advantages: relatively small number of piconets in this scatternet, balanced network load, short time of network establishment, convenient topology maintenance, and it is not necessary for all nodes to be within the communication range.
