A novel on-line monitoring method, based on on-line measuring of power transformer short circuit reactance to estimate the winding deformation, is proposed in this paper. Applying the identification principle and making use of measuring signal of the spot primary, secondary currents and voltages, we build a complete monitoring and identification system for transformer winding parameter. Calculating the short-circuit reactance of windings and comparing it with the normal short-circuit reactance, we can judge whether the windings are working well and where the malfunction exists. This system has been used in a 220/66KV power transformer. The testing result is positive. It can calculate the value of shortcircuit reactance exactly. Thus the correctness of the theory and effectiveness of the designed system are well testified, the objective of on-line monitoring has been realized in this system.
