DECENTRALISED POWER GENERATION THROUGH GASIFICATION OF LOCALLY GROWN BIOMASS - THE RURAL SOLUTION FOR MEETING LOCAL POWER DEMAND

Distributed power generation is power generation under the control of the final user. Given that the systems are proven, users are well trained and after sales service is available for all equipment, this can be a viable alternative to conventional power in some cases. It can also be a solution for tail end boosting of low power availability, to the grid, where such situations warrant it. Thus, the development of biomass based power generation systems is one of the ways of solving power shortages, particularly in rural areas, which are already endowed with the resource base for main fuel. What remains to be done is to build up a comprehensive package which can be commercially financed based on an increased confidence level of developers and financing institutions.
