ECOLOGICAL DIMENSIONS OF AFFORESTATION GREEN BELT MANAGEMENT WITH RESPECT TO THERMAL POWER PLANT

The present paper deals with the account of carrying out the environment impact studies prior to selection of the power plant site. The compensatory afforestation aspect as per land acquisition norms has been discussed. "The methodology for afforestation with some suggestive measures are discussed in detail for comprehensive afforestation programme by way of development of buffer zones and green belt around plant and ash dyke periphery including Power Station's residential complex with special mention of hexagonal pattern to felicitate the maximum density of the species were explained in detail". With the help of the sketches a model afforestation plan has been suggested for the township and an innovative method of green belt development on plant and ash dyke boundaries were discussed. The reference has been given for the development of village orchards containing fruit bearing plants, medicinal plants and flowering plants with suggested list of species. A concept of 'Forest Bank' and 'Land Bank' has also been touched upon. The nursery development with conservatory is mentioned with its economic considerations and saplings availability. A study was made on the approach adopted by a premier power generating company 'NTPC' with respect to afforestation is not out of place to mention with this paper which is worth praising effort and can be adopted by other organizations in the suitable way for country's benefit thus contributing for global cause.
