Increased coal use for power generation must be balanced by improved technology to reduce the adverse impacts of plant emissions on human health, the environment, and the global climate in the most economical way. While pollutant emissions per unit of coal burned for power generation have decreased significantly over years, the increasing stress on reduction of green house gases calls for generation of power from coal in the most efficient manner. The enhanced steam parameters to the turbo generator improve the plant efficiency and thereby reduce the fuelconsumption as well as absolute CO_2 generation. Once through type supercritical boilers are employed for generation of steam with enhanced steam parameters. Certain aspects related to design of once through boiler for catering to higher steam parameters are discussed in this paper.
