Development Trends of Domestic and Foreign Dyestuff Industry and Countermeasures to be taken by China's Dyestuff Industry

The dyestuff industry is within the range of refined chemical industry, and is one of the sectors developed rather earlier in the chemical industry. Applications of its products include textile fabrics, paper, leather, food, plastic, coating materials, printing ink and rubber, etc. The dyestuff industry is in close relation to people's daily living and plays a very important role in improving coloration and performance of the its objects, though it is not equal to a backbone industry in the national economy. As compared with some burgeoning sectors in the chemical industry, the dyestuff industry developed at a rather slower speed in recent years. Some developed countries have regarded it as a sunset industry, or withdrew from it, or transferred their production plants into other countries, leading to a radical change in the general layout of the world's dyestuff industry. In technology, new printing and dying techniques and ever changing requirements of consumers impel the dyestuff industry to constantly improve its techniques and technologies and develop new products. And in environmental protection, the dyestuff industry encounters certain new problems, and some challenges for its further development. At the turn of century, it is necessary to make an analysis on the status quo and recent development of the old industry with a history of 150 years, forecast the prospects of the industry in the new century and propose the development countermeasures for our country's dyestuff industry to take early in the new century, so as to narrow the gap between our country and developed countries in the dyestuff industry.
