TRENDS IN BULK CARRIER FOUNDERING ACCIDENTS AND THEIR HISTORICAL RISK PROFILE

This paper is aimed at presenting the trends of bulk carrier foundering accidents for a period of over thirty years. Hence, the historical risk profile in terms of lost crewmembers of these vessels is determined. Furthermore, a breakdown of the possible causes that might have led to the loss of the vessels is performed. In addition, the effect of the proposed risk reduction measures (implemented regulations) is estimated.
