ASSESSING IMPACTS OF TSUNAMIS ON TAIWAN'S AND CHINA'S SOUTHEAST COASTLINES

This paper presents a finite element numerical model to assess the potential coastal impacts of V tsunamis on the entire coastline surrounding the island of Taiwan and the large area of China's southeast coastline. The strategy is to create, ahead of time, a data bank on the coastal impact of tsunamis with different predominant frequencies coming from different directions. When a tsunami event is detected at some region away from the modeled region, realistic impacts can be quickly computed for the expected affected area, thus a realistic rapid response evacuation and emergency management plan can be activated.
