The most effective measure to decrease disasters from a tsunami event is an integratedcoastal zone defence management against tsunami attack. An important tool for this management is an improved knowledge about the hydraulic performance of tsunami waves in near- and onshore areas. A research programme on the physical modeling of tsunami waves have been started in the Large Wave Channel (GWK) of the Coastal Research Centre (FZK). Large-scale model tests are being performed in the Large Wave Channel (GWK) of the Coastal Research Centre (FZK). In this paper first results about tsunami wave generation using solitary wave theory and about tsunami wave run-up on a uniform gentle sloped beach profile are reported.
