The purpose of this study is to ensure and analyze the performance of our circulating fluidized bed (CFB) gasifier pilot plant with refuse derived fuel (RDF), and to be able to make the necessary tuning of the system. All gasification experiments of RDF by partial oxidation were carried out in a 0.15 m I.D., 10 m high circulating fluidized bed gasification pilot plant. The refuse derived fuel used during gasification was the paper reject from processing of recycled paper for paper production in Taiwan. The reject was pelletized, and it contains approximately 60-70% wood fiber, 10-20% plastics and 10-15% ash. The pellets were about 0.8 cm of diameter. Silica sand with a mean size of 0.176 mm was employed as the bed material in this test. The preliminary results showed that the pressure drop in the riser kept steady at 200 -250 mmH_2O indicating a good well-mixed condition. The gasification temperature distribution was uniformly between 700-800℃. The composition of the syngas was within the ranges 3.3-3.5 vol.% H_2, 13.8-14.2 vol.% CO, 11.8-12.0 vol.% CO_2, 4.1-4.2 vol.% CH_4 and 1.9-2.1 vol.% O_2. The maximum heating value of the syngas was around 930 kcal/Nm~3 (~4 MJ/Nm~3).
