Innovative sustainable construction materials and construction methods have been used in the design of a low cost, low energy, flexible, comfortable family dwelling. 'Breathing wall' technology is employed in the floor, walls and roof. Economic aspects of sustainability have been addressed, and sensible measures have been taken to permit sustainable technologies to be incorporated, as they become economically viable. Comparisons are made with conventional construction. Construction is lightweight, but the house has been designed to respond in a similar fashion to heavyweight construction. The house has very low energy consumption and embodied energy. Replication of the technologies used is both practicable and economically viable.
