Current calculation methods for building energy consumption ignore the interaction of air leakage and heat conduction in the building envelope, which causes the so-called infiltration heat recovery effect. This paper presents new numerical predictions of infiltration heat recovery efficiency (IHRE), based on a two-dimensional steady-state model for combined heat and air transfer in building components. The results are compared to analytical estimates and previous numerical calculations of IHRE, and deviations are discussed. The comparison shows that infiltration heat recovery is a more complex phenomenon than previously assumed, and cannot be traced by simple relations of system Peclet number.
