Review on Manufacturing Flexibility: Definition and Classification

摘要

Manufacturing flexibility is a very important subject for firms, due to the environmental uncertainty and the variability of products and process. This paper generalizes the definition and classification of flexibility based on some classical literature. The definition is explained in three aspects induced from the firm's context and other disciplines separately. The classification is summarized to five types: horizontal, vertical, temporal, the object of variation and mixed.
