Film-hole irrigation is a relative new irrigation method, which refers to the horded field completely-covered with plastic film and water penetrate into soil through holes from which crop seedlings come out. So that it is a new kind of surface irrigation technique has both water-saving and yield-increasing effects is very apparent. This paper deals with the field experiment on water flow behaviors in the cotton field with the film hole irrigation. The experiments was carried out in Xinjiang in 1998. Observations and measurements were made for flow advance and recession phases of the film-hole irrigation, for different unit-width inlet discharges and different water cutoff time. The results indicate that in the case of the same unit-width Met discharges, the flow advance velocity of the film hole irrigation becomes faster with an increase in irrigation number, while the recession velocity becomes slower. Accordingly, the rational unit-width inlet discharge and water cutoff time of the film hole irrigation can be determined via the analysis of the experiment results.
