This paper describes the design and implementation of a new High Temperature Superconducting Magnetic Energy Storage System (HT-SMES) to support critical industrial loads connected to the customer's 11 kV load bus with a ride-through capability of around 20 cycles. The operating principles of the proposed controllers are analyzed and the feasibility and performance of the proposed HT-SMES under different operating modes are demonstrated through simulation and experimental results.
