A basic Computer Telephony Integration (CTI) platform, which consists of hardware and software parts, is proposed and developed in this project. Telephony voice card is the critical part of the hardware, it physically bridges up two different networks together-tele phone and computer networks. In this project, we investigate the realization of a parallel 16 channel voice card usingTMS320C6211 DSP chip. This chip is selected because of its excellence price to performance ratio such that 16 channel voice algorithm could be implemented on the single DSP chip. To make it compatible with vast PC market, PCI(Peripheral Component Interconnect) is obviously the best bus rchitecture.PCI2040 bridge chip is therefore seamless cooperation withTMS320C6211DSP.PCI2040 handles most of the PCI hardware signaling, what we need to do is, to write the control software, that is the pc driver. The driver monitors every hardware status on the voice card like the telephone module and the DSP while controlling their operation according to their status, at any given time, the DSP is able to capture any arbitrary phone channel, compress the voice stream and dump it to the PCI bus for permanent storage on hard disk. On the other way round, it loads the voice stream back from hard disk in compressed domain, decompress it and play it back on any arbitrary phone channel. The project has succeeded in realizing the PCI voice card and C6211 signal processing, real time implementation.
