The synthesis of poly (vinyl acetate) / montmorillonite nanocomposites materials were studied. The montmorillonite was modified by quaternary ammonium salt after the exchange of its interlayer cations with Na~+. With the affinity between the quaternary-ammonium-cations/montmorillonite and the organic compounds, the vinyl acetate monomer as the guest substance was inserted in the interlayer of montmorillonite nanocomposite materials were synthesized by using the technique latex polymerization. The results of FTIR, XRD, TG and DSC show that the inserting of the vinyl acetate monomer can remarkably enlarge the interlayer space of montmorillonite, and the poly (vinyl acetate)/ montmorillonite nanocomposites materials completely lose the X-ray diffraction of montmorillonite and the quaternary-ammonium-cation/ montmorillonite.
