Dynamic Analysis of Contact Mechanism for a Piezoelectric Ultrasonic Motor

During the past two decades, various ultrasonic motors have been developed and investigated. Among all of the ultrasonic motors, the traveling wave type ultrasonic motors (USM) are the most popular. Although there are many research papers discussing the dynamics of the USM, the contact mechanism between the rotor and the stator has not been completely studied. In this paper, the mathematical model is constructed by using the energy method. The contact mechanism and the rotor dynamics are integrated to describe and predict the dynamic behavior. The cause of dead zone effect is also discussed.
