Modular Expansion Joints for World's Largest Bridges

摘要

The paper gives a brief introduction into the world of large bridge expansion joints. It talks about requirements, design, static and dynamic analysis, performance and movements of expansion joints for large scale bridges. In particular, the influence of volume and loads of the expected traffic as well as movement characteristics of bridges will be discussed. Further, the paper will reflect several features such as lifetime and total lifecycle costs of large expansion joints. A special focus will be given to the experience gained when designing, manufacturing, shipping and installing the largest ever built modular expansion joint installed at the Run Yang Bridge in China.
