The seismic safety of the Yokohama Bay Bridge, which is a long-span cable-stayed bridge, was analyzed. Possible earthquake motions were estimated by a seismological-based direct method, taking into consideration the seismic source characteristics at the bridge location, and the long-period range, which is likely to have great influence on the structure. As a result, the seismic response of the bridge was calculated effectually.
