摘要

Dry inclined cable galloping is an aerodynamic instability phenomenon specifically related to circular cylinders skewed to wind. Though it has only been observed in several occasions in the laboratory environment, its divergent nature and catastrophic consequence has caused serious concerns in the engineering community. A collaborative research project has been conducted to investigate the phenomenon. The focus of the present paper is to examine the spatial flow structure around an inclined cable and explore the possible excitation mechanism of the phenomenon. The similarity between galloping behaviour of dry inclined cable and ice-coated cable will also be discussed.
