Investigation and Countermeasures on Occupational Injuries of Nursing Staff in the First-level and the Second-level Hospitals of Hongkou District in Shanghai

[Objective] To investigate the main occupational injuries and the current protection status of nursing staff to offer the scientific basis for establishment of a protection system against occupational hazards for medical personnel. [Methods] Questionnaires were surveyed of 412 nurses in 7 hospitals (5 of the first-level hospital, 2 of the second-level hospitals) to investigate the main occupational injuries and the protection status. The data were analyzed for frequency and treated using the statistical software SPSS. [Results] The main occupational injuries of nursing staff were needle stick injuries, surgery instrument injures and disinfector burns. The surgery instrument injuries and blames from patients were more serious in the second-level hospital than in the first-level hospital, the protection status was worse in the first-level hospital than in the second-level hospital. [Conclusion] The managers of hospital should pay attention to education of occupational protection, and establishment of an occupational injuries reporting, monitoring and treating system as soon as possible.
