Investigation of Occupational Injuries in a Railway Bureau during 1997 ～ 2003

[Objective]To clarify distribution characteristics, causes and trend of occupational injuries in four railway sub-bureaus. [Methods] To carry out retrospective epidemiological investigation on occupational injuries occurred in the persons attached to four railway sub-bureaus froml997 to 2003. [Results] The crude incidence of occupational injuries was 23.68/105 during the period and the crude mortality rate of occupational injuries was 3.17/105. The major types of injuries were vehicle injuries (31.0%) and falls (16.9%). The main cause of injury was violation of operating regulations (61.3%). [Conclusions] To control and reduce incidence of occupational injuries, preventive measures should be focused on work safety management and education.
