摘要

Altmetrics is currently emerging as an important metric that maps the impact of scholarly communication beyond citations at the global level in the online world. This paper showcases the presence and density of political science journals on altmetric data sources and whether highly discussed journals on social media capitalize this attention in impact factor and 5 year impact factor. Political science journals are highly populated on Twitter, Facebook, Blogs and in News stories. Results indicate that altmetric score for most of the journals is less than 1000 with highest count for “American Journal of Political Science”. The count of tweets stands out in comparison to discussion of journals on other sources with mean tweet count of 543 per journal. Moreover, strong and positive correlation is observed between impact factor, 5 year impact factor and altmetric score with stronger affiliation to Blog mentions, News stories, Tweets and Google+, while as, Facebook and Reddit stories show trivial relation with journal evaluation indicators.
