In the present study, six soybean genotypes differing in maturity time were grown in the field under low and high P conditions. Our results showed that P availability significantly affected plant biomass and P content of those tested soybean genotypes, and these effects were related to root traits. Under low P conditions, soybean genotypes appeared to have shorter total root length and smaller root surface, decreased biomass and P content, but higher ratio of root to shoot over time. Our data also indicated that soybean genotypes with later maturity time might have superior root traits and better P acquisition efficiency.
