BaGdB_9O_(16): Eu~(3+), Nd~(3+) were prepared by the solid-state synthesis method and its photoluminescence in visible and near infrared region has been investigated. The effective energy transfer from visible to near infrared was demonstrated from Eu~(3+) to Nd~(3+) based on the luminescence spectra and decay lifetimes of BaGd_(0.99-x)Nd_xB_9O_(16): 0.01 Eu~(3+). According to calculation, the energy transfer efficiency came to 62.9%, and the proper mechanism was proposed to rationalize the quantum cutting process.
