Evaluation on Comparative Advantage of Chinese Grape Industry Based on RSCA

Grape industry plays an important role in the agricultural production and trade all over the world.Although China is a large producer in global grape production,it participates in lower proportion of international trade.There is a large trade deficit in Chinese grape industry.Therefore,analyzing and evaluating the current situation of international competitiveness about Chinese grape industry would contribute to understand the status of Chinese grape industry and probe the problems in the grape industry.Based on the theory of comparative advantage and the revealed symmetric comparative advantage (RSCA),the paper has evaluated the comparative advantage of four main kinds of grape products:grapes,wine,raisins and grape juice.Comparing with the top ten grapes leading producers in the world,Chinese grape industry's international competitiveness and comparative advantage were analyzed.The results reveal that international competitiveness of Chinese grape products is quite low.However,the comparative advantage of raisin and table grape has increased significantly in recent years.
