The large seismic motion due to the earthquake in the Surugawan area was observed at Hamaoka Nuclear Power Station in Shizuoka prefecture, Japan on August 11, 2009. Using the observed records of this earthquake, the simulation analysis of the building was performed, and the results were compared with the observed records. The simulation models used were a lumped mass soil-structure model (lattice model) with a viscous boundary, the 3D FEM model of the entire building structure and the 3D FEM model representing the structure from and above the operating floor (4F). It was confirmed that the behavior of the reactor building by these analyses closely agreed with the behavior observed.
