We propose and demonstrate a new integrated polarization splitter made by ion exchange on glass operating at a wavelength of 1.55 |im. The design is based on an asymmetric Y-junction with one output branch supporting only the TE mode. Cross-talk lower than -30.0 dB in TM mode has been achieved over a wavelength range of 80 nm. Values lower than -10.0 dB for the TE mode were demonstrated over the same bandwidth with an optimum of -19.8 dB at 1.54 μm. The experimental results are in good agreement with simulations. We measured insertion losses of 6.5 dB in both modes.
