Environmental impact in Jiu Valey Coal Field due to mining activity

Artificial pollution has become one of the most important issue in the world. Urbanisation processes and massif industry development provokes energetic resources and raw material demand increasing. The production was varied answering to the increasing demand of a more complex life. Due to this facts, more quantities of waste, very varied and more of them in quantities which exceed the environmental self epuration capacity. In Romania are many high polluted areas due to their massif industrial developing. One of this area are Jiu Valley which are the most important bituminous coal in our country. The most important environmental pollution sources in coal field Jiu Valley are represented by power station and coal preparation plants. The power station provoke an increasing level of pollutants like CO_2, SO_2, sedimentable dust and aerosols. The coal preparation plants provoke the Jiu river pollution with slurries and organic matter which have a very great level in comparison with legal values. Sterile dumps and burned coal ash ponds are another source of environmental pollution.
