A STUDY ON THE MASTERY OF TOUCH-TYPING BY ROMAN INPUT METHOD

Touch-typing is an effective typing method to use a computer as a tool of externalization of thinking, and it is an important literacy in information society. Here, we report about the method of touch-typing education that was carried out as one part of the information education for the first year students of a university, and the learners' mastery characteristics of touch-typing in one year's lesson. As for the method of touch-typing education, we suggest the method that the learners evaluate themselves after the touch-typing practice according to criterion-referenced evaluation and intra-individual interpretation and they continue the touch-typing practice while raising their intrinsic motivation by setting the targets of the touch-typing practice as their own targets and always being informed about the results of the touch-typing practice. As for the mastery characteristics of touch-typing, it was shown that the mastery type of typing time is the mastery of convex type which is one of log non-linear mastery of sum total mean. It was shown that the mastery type of mistake rate is log linear mastery of sum total mean (mastery rate = 90.9%). We suggest the method to extract the mastery patterns of touch-typing and show the 11 kinds of mastery patterns extracted from the time series data of typing time of the learners.
