Optical disk storage and retrieval systems for aerospace platforms

Abstract: This paper provides an update on the development status of two, high performance optical disk drive systems being developed by GE Aerospace for the U.S. Government. One is for airborne platforms, the other is for long-life spaceflight platforms. Device data rates are 3 and 37 MBytes/sec sustained, capacities are 12 and 10 GBytes and access times are 350 and 100 ms, respectively. Flight tests for each are scheduled for 1993 and 1995. !6
