Optimal Product Slotting

摘要

Slotting is the process of locating items in a warehouse such that the total order picking time is minimized. Slottingrnaffects the time required to filling a customer’s order and hence, the number of orders filled per shift. Travelingrnalong the aisles to pick items constitutes nearly 55% of the total order picking time. This paper presents thernmathematical models formulated and the solution approaches devised to optimally locate the items in a warehousernsuch that the total order picking time is minimized. The solution prescribed by the model was implemented andrnsignificant savings were realized.
