The Jade Field is located in the UKCS in an area of active seabed scour. This was a complicating factor in the challenging design of a pipeline to transport fluids at the very high temperature of 160℃ from the Jade platform to the Judy platform, 17.71cm away, for processing. The paper describes in detail the design conditions regarding the pipeline material, corrosion protection, insulation requirements and the assumed operating conditions. A number of pipeline configurations were considered in the detailed design before the final one was agreed for construction and installation. The paper reviews the lessons learned during the design process of this pipeline, which will transport fluid at one of the highest temperature in the North Sea and possibly in the World.
