In this paper, the bending moment response to slamming wave loads of a cruise ship is investigated via segmented model tests based on the elastic backbone technique. The tests, performed at the Italian ship model basin, concern mainly irregular seaways in head and following conditions, in order to explore both bow and stern slamming. In particular, stern slamming has recently revealed to be a serious problem for the passenger comfort of this kind of ships during the slow approach to harbours. Therefore, the preliminary results of the test campaign are herein presented, focusing on bending vibrations induced by slamming loads.
