The dynamic behavior of a beam under the actions of both the initial displacement and the unsteady external pressure is investigated by employing the linear approach based on the normal modes analysis. The elastic deflection of the structure is expressed by a superposition of mathematical modal functions of a beam with free edge conditions. The time-dependent unknown amplitudes are determined from the solution of a set of the integral-differential equations. The memory-effect functions are defined from the solution of the radiation problem. The frequency dependence of the hydrodynamic force matrix (added mass and damping coefficients) is studied in detail. The effect of a moving load is considered taking the airplane landing as an example. The time histories of the structural deflections of the beam are investigated for different conditions of airplane landing.
