PROBABLE MAXIMUM PRECIPITATION (PMP) FOR FIVE PORTUGUESE RAINGAUGES

For the purpose of reliable hydrological design information PMP are beingrnconsidered at least as a referential estimation for comparison. Portugal has recentlyrnexperience three consecutive very wet years, with severe flooding in all of them. Thernlast flood events made 11 casualties in Southern Portugal and 20 in the contiguousrnSpanish province of Extremadura, much of them dictated by the ruin of severalrnlandfill roads that acted as earth dams. In this paper new PMP estimates for fivernpoints spread through the Portuguese territory are formulated to help in thernsubsequent design process.
