HYDRO – MORPHODYNAMIC MODELING OF GROIN FIELDS

A two dimensional model is applied to investigate flow through and around realrngroins and groin fields. For hydrodynamic investigations on a simplified model a 2Drndepth averaged, as well as a 3D model is used. In addition to the mentionedrnhydrodynamic calculations, morphodynamic computations were carried out withrnTIMOR3, developed by Zanke. The aim of these calculations is to show typicalrneffects like development of scour at the tip of the groin and erosion or deposition ofrnsediment inside the groinfield as well as the transport in the river. All models werernpreviously applied to a synthetic generated groinfield to study their characteristicrnbehaviour (simplified model). In this paper the preliminary steps in modeling arernpresented.
