The exclusive use of traditional methods of education and training (e.g., lecture-based training programs) have failed to meet the demands of most professionalised work environments. Naval organizations across the globe have recognised this. As a result, they continue to invest heavily in the development and fielding of simulation. This investment is intended to align with the goal of reducing training and development cost and schedule while also optimizing trainee performance and learning effectiveness. We present the results of a project that aims to reduce sea time for qualification of Marine Service Technicians (MSTs) of the Royal Australian Navy (RAN) while optimizing trainee performance and learning effectiveness.
