摘要

The ITU-Land project aims to develop a full system prototype of a working environment supporting land planning and environmental risk assessment based on a parallel architecture. The approach is based on the integration of a set of tools available on the market or in research prototypes, and it is strongly driven by end user applications needs. The basic tools of the system are (ⅰ) the HERMES system, devoted to manage the integration among heterogeneous and distributed spatial data bases, (ⅱ) SPIDER, a multi-platform framework designed and prototyped to provide the user with a set of tools supporting the development, tuning and application of optimised parallel software for a large class of mathematical models. User interaction languages are also discussed, and experimental results briefly sketched.
