Parallelisation of a hydrodynamic model for the Northwest European Continental Shelf

We have discussed the parallelisation of a 2D ADI solver for the Shallow Water Equations. The tridiagonal systems are solved using the Thomas algorithm with data transposition, the implementation of which is rather straightforward. For the tidal simulation in the Northwest European Continental Shelf Sea, a good parallel performance is achieved. We have also reported on experiments with the FORGE 90 parallelisation tool. Applications with irregular data such as the Continental Shelf Sea application, can hardly be parallelised well by using FORGE 90, mainly due to the irregularity of the data which can cause a large load imbalance. Nevertheless, the use of parallel software tools such as FORGE 90 can help to simplify the implementation work.
