Web Services represents a revolution in e-business capabilities. It enables a dynamic e-business model, fosters collaboration with layered services and opens the doors for new business opportunities. But it is a simple evolutionary step in software development; it extends existing standards and requires only a new layer leveraging existing software. Web Service offers umpteen number of business opportunities that it throws open to the corporate world. However, as with any new technology or concept, Web Services has its own share of complexities and challenges that need to be addressed. Above all, there needs to be a systematic approach to transforming the existing businesses to adopt to the new Web Services culture and it demands nothing less than a high level corporate strategy passing down the management hierarchy.rnThis paper sets out to analyze all the afore mentioned aspects of Web Services. It lays down the business opportunities that Web Services presents and examines the challenges in Web Services development from a business and implementation perspective. It puts forth a 10-step corporate strategy that could be specific rules of thumb for any corporate wishing to make a business transformation venturing into Web Services.
