摘要

Rapid air oxidation (RAO) has been used to form hard, adherent, extremely wear resistant in situ oxide coatings on Ti-Zr-Nb substrates. The sliding wear behavior of these composite structures has been investigated under non-lubricated conditions using a WC-Co counter-face. The abrasion behavior has been investigated using single and multiple scratch techniques. The mechanisms of material removal for each wear test tribo-environment has been determined using scanning electron microscopy, and these results are discussed in terms of oxide integrity and its adherence to the Ti-Zr-Nb substrate.
